Dick Lovett BMW Bristol are excited to reveal the ultimate electric driving machine!
BMW are working on designing a new model called the Concept ActiveE. This represents the second stage of BMW's 'project i' which is an ongoing venture to try and introduce a zero emissions model range to the market.
Thanks to a clever design aspect, the Concept ActiveE has enough space for four passangers, a 200 litre boot capacity and weight distribution similar to the current BMW range. BMW aim to ensure that the driving experience is instantly recognisable to current owners and still offers the ultimate driving pleasure.
The new electric motor is integrated in the rear wheel axle which delivers 168bhp and 250Nm of torque available from zero rpm. A 0-37mph sprint is reached in 4.5 seconds, 0-62mph takes just 9 seconds, with a top speed of 90mph.
Charging can take place either via a standard home socket or an industrial high current outlet; the latter options means that the battery can be charged up in an impressive three hours, giving a driving range of 100 miles.
The visual changes are very minimal when compared with the current BMW 1 Series Coupe. However, a new ConnectedDrive service allows owners to remotely check the charge status of their vehicle using their mobile phone, in addition to activating the heating and air-conditioning systems.
The Concept ActiveE is likely to be shown at the 2010 Paris Show in September. It will then be trialled by selected members of the public who will give their feedback and opinions to BMW who will then use this in the development stages.
